Week One: Introduction
I thought the best way to start this course would be to introduce myself. My name is Preema and I'm from Indianapolis, Indiana. The city of indianapolis instilled in me a deep appreciation for hard work and resilience. Raised amidst the vibrant energy of the city, I witnessed firsthand the dedication of individuals who cared for their communities. Being born an empath lead me to the field of nursing.
Indiana University's School of Nursing provided a rigorous foundation for my nursing career. The demanding program honed my clinical skills and instilled in me a commitment to evidence-based practice. As a registered nurse, I have had the privilege of serving patients in diverse settings, from the ICU to the compassionate environment of the oncology ward. These experiences have solidified my belief in the transformative power of quality healthcare.
However, my journey as a healthcare professional has also revealed disparities in access to care and the profound impact of public health policy on patient outcomes. This desire to address these challenges led me to pursue a joint MBA/MPH program. This unique combination will equip me with the business knowledge to navigate the complexities of the healthcare landscape while fostering a deeper understanding of public health strategies.
My pursuit of this degree is not merely for career advancement, but rather a commitment to becoming an advocate for healthcare equity. I envision a future where all residents, regardless of location, have access to high-quality care. By combining my nursing background with business and public health expertise, I aim to develop innovative solutions that improve population health outcomes and promote preventive measures within communities.
